Opinzel pocket knife No.8 with stainless steel blade and beech handle decorated with skiing motifs.

One of the knives in the French mountain series celebrating the sports of skiing, cycling and mountain hiking, the Opinel pocket knife No.8 The beechwood handle, engraved with skiing motifs, is a reliable and sturdy helper in any situation and the perfect gift for any ski sports enthusiast. It is the ideal Opinel knife for a trip, picnic, barbecue party, hiking or any other outdoor activity. Made in France.

Features:

Blade

The Opinel Pocket Knife No.8 has a blade length of 8.5 cm. The blade is made of 12C27 stainless steel, modified by Sandvik and adapted to Opinel knives, and is renowned for its extremely high quality and easy daily maintenance. The steel is hardened by heat treatment with martensitic hardening. With a carbon content of at least 0.40%, the blade is of high quality and corrosion-resistant.

The traditional Opinel blade is of the jatagan type. This shape was inspired by the curved point of the Turkish sword. The Jatagan blade has a convex profile, which gives it strength and allows it to be sharpened repeatedly. One side of the blade is decorated with skiing motifs (laser engraved).

Handle

For the handles, Opinel usually chooses plain beech wood. Beech trees grown on French farms are hard, resistant to external influences and easy to handle. The wood has a homogeneous appearance and its light colour can vary from yellow to pink. Beech wood can be identified by its many dark streaks. The handle is varnished to protect it from moisture and dirt. The handle is decorated with skiing motifs (laser engraved).

Virobloc safety ring
The Opinel No. 8, like all other Opinel curved knives from No. 6 onwards, has a Virobloc safety ring invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955. The Virobloc ring, which is cut from stainless steel, consists of two parts: a stationary and a sliding part. The blade is locked in both a folded position (for safe handling) and a folded position (for safety during transport).
