Blade

The length of the blade of the Opinel No. 8 knife is 8,5 cm. The blade is made of 12C27 stainless steel, modified by Sandvik and adapted to Opinel knives, and is renowned for its extremely high quality and easy daily maintenance. The steel is hardened by heat treatment with martensitic hardening. With a carbon content of at least 0.40%, the blade is of high quality and corrosion-resistant.

The traditional Opinel pocket knife blade is of the jatagan type. This shape was inspired by the curved point of the Turkish sword. The Jatagan blade is characterised by its convex profile, which gives it strength and allows it to be sharpened repeatedly.

Handle

Coralwood from Africa has a fine grain and a solid appearance. Its shades range from reddish brown to pink with purple veins.

Virobloc safety ring
The Opinel No. 8, like all Opinel curved knives from No. 6 onwards, has a Virobloc safety ring invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955. The Virobloc ring, which is cut from stainless steel, consists of two parts: a stationary and a sliding part. The blade is locked in both a folded position (for safe handling) and a folded position (for safety during transport).
